In celebration of composer Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday, conductor Alfred Savia will lead the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra in West Side Story in Concert at 7:00 PM on Saturday, November 10 and at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 11 at the Victory Theatre.
Bernstein’s most beloved Broadway score comes to life in all its dramatic richness. This great musical portrays life in Manhattan during the 1950s. In this modern day adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Julie, the streets were unsafe due to gang violence that pitted entrenched New York residents against Puerto Rican immigrants.
From the first notes to the final breath, this landmark musical is one of the greatest love stories of all time, and Bernstein’s score includes favorite songs, “Maria,” “Somewhere,” “America,” and “I Feel Pretty.”
