Come see exciting Demolition City Roller Derby action at the downtown Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum when Dan’s Comp presents the 5th annual Broads on Quads. DCRD’s Dynamite Dolls, ranked #18 in the North Central Region, will face the #23 Derby City Rollergirls from Louisville at 7:30 P.M. This will be the third meeting of these two teams with DCRD holding a 2-1 advantage. After the Dynamite Dolls won the first two meetings, Derby City squeaked out a 1-point, 105-104 win last year.
In the opening event, DCRD’s B team, the Destruction Dames will take on the Lansing Derby Vixens, the Lansing, Michigan A team, at 5:30 P.M. Doors open at 4:30 P.M.
This is not the old circus-type, spectacle derby you may remember from watching old TV, but a true hard-hitting sporting event. You could say it is now a whole lot more like Ice Hockey and a whole lot less like professional wrestling. The girls like to say, “The blood and bruises are real.”
DCRD is a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the world-wide governing body for roller derby, a sport that has teams on every continent. Currently, there are over 30,000 women playing this amazing sport. Read about WFTDA at http://wftda.com/; to see the regional rankings, click on Leagues, then click on Rankings.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 7-12, ages 6 and under are free. As the bout date approaches, tickets will be available on our website at http://www.demolitioncityrollerderby.com/2010.php. Tickets will also be available at our outlets at Dan’s Comp in Mt Vernon, Top Spot Outdoors, Get Wet, Wired Coffeehouse and from your favorite DCRD rollergirl.
